What is Aikido

Aikido is a modern matial art with a Samurai heritage. the founder of Aikido: Morihei Ueshiba, conceived of Aikido as the expression of his elightenment, A synthesis of the devastatingly powerful martial techniques of Aiki-Jujutsu, Sword, and Spear arts, and the esoteric practices of Shinto and Omoto-Kyo. Aikido is a truly unique martial art.

Master Ueshiba’s great enlightenment revealed that Budo; the martial arts, was to serve the purpose of unifying the world with a spirit of harmony and cooperation, rather than to serve selfish and destructive ends. Thus the way we train is uniquely cooperative and instructive at once, and serves to develop an understanding of the movements on a deep level.

Our aim is to develop ourselves and our training partners simultaneously, rather than trying to injure or harm anyone. With a cooperative spirit we all learn and improve more rapidly.

At the Woodstock and Kingston Dojos we pride ourselves on preserving and transmitting the art of Aikido as created by the founder. We are proud of our schools and the unique, non-commercial, family feeling of our dojos. Our affiliation is with the United States Aikido Fderation, the largest, most extensive Aikido organization in the United States, under Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan, 8th Dan. Our lineage to the Founder is direct through Yamada Shihan who was an original live-in disciple of Morehei Ueshiba, the Founder.
